In other news, I was channel hopping yesterday and came upon a strange combination: Sat 1 was showing a Scooter-concert from Hamburg, while the WDR brought the best of Rock am Ring, which in this case was Cradle of Filth.
Scooter, of course, are the spawn of Satan and while I guess you have to respect the fact that everybody involved in the concert looked like they were really enjoying themselves (Except possibly for the gogos, who wore the usual meta-porn facial expression and whose mood therefore could not be ascertained), this really is music for the seriously intoxicated. I mean, Scooter's lyrics are not exactly complicated and still the audience had trouble yelling along to the chorus. And the only reason why I even watched a few minutes of this was that they actually included a cover of DM's "Stripped", which wasn't as bad as it might sound, but simply very uninventive. Not to mention that HP Baxxter is not that great a vocalist.
On the other channel, Cradle of Filth were doing their thing. One can only wonder who had the marvellous idea of making them do their show in sunshine. Dry ice doesn't work this way. In this light, the halfarsedness of the make-up and costume became all to apparent. The music was okay, though. Undoubtedly, there are better Black Metal bands and far better gothic metal bands, but as a combination, it just about works. The next time they're touring, I should really think about attending. As long as it's indoors or after nightfall.
I also liked the fact that they did actually pick a female vocalist who was not the typical gothic eye-candy (When was the last time you saw an overweight woman with bad skin not making the slightest attempt at looking seductive on the stage of a concert?), but who definitely had a great voice. That's what I call getting priorities right.
