And because the weather was pleasant and the motivation was there, we actually did the second and the third part of our tour at the last weekend.
Saturday the sun was out in force and it fitted our walking through tourist-heavy and severely crowded parts of the city quite well. So much so that we actually suffered sunburn and ice cream (from a place near Checkpoint Charlie called "Kalter Krieg". Thankfully, the ice cream was more tasteful than the name) for the sake of our tour. ;-) And still, even though we had seen much of the area we passed through before, it was quite fascinating to a) discover some, mostly incredibly narrow, parts we had not seen before, not to mention witness how strange the line of the Wall was in parts, mostly crossing the pavement but occasionally criss-crossing it like a demented graph, and b) to have a sort of continuity to the parts and areas we already knew.
Part 2 led us from the Mauerpark to a bridge separating Neukölln and Treptow, near Harzer Straße (if that means anything to you).

Sunday thankfully the weather was a bit more moderate so that me and my sunburn did not run the risk of getting even more closely acquainted than we already were. And while the first few thousand steps were met by my legs with their version of grumbling, once it all got under way, they gave me little trouble. On the other hand, once we had left the more crowded parts of the city, the tour became more of a selection of lovely, green paths (by a canal or away from it), bridges with industrial architecture in the distance and one walk along a motorway that seemed to not want to end. Which is to say that once more there were bits that skaters, wanderers and nature-lovers might want to visit in isolation but for us who tried to walk all of it, it got a little monotonous in parts. Thankfully, the very last bit was slightly greener again and the feeling I got when we finally approached the sign marking the end of Berlin made it all worth it. Rain started the moment we left our tour proper and headed towards Schönefeld Station but we got home before the real downpour commenced.

All in all, we probably walked somewhere in the area of 50km.

Now, what to do next?
