I think that "Father Ted" is very, very funny. "The Pope must die" was a so-so comedy with Robbie Coltrane, a bit like "King Ralph" in the Vatican. It portrayed the head bishops as money-grabbing arms dealers (you know your church history, you know that this is not entirely unfounded). Which is about the worst thing I could think of that "Popetown" is insinuating about the church. An infantile pope on a pogo stick just doesn't count as blasphemy.
