The long walk down History Lane
Jul. 14th, 2011 03:21 pmMe and the SO have been bandying round ideas of walks one could do around the city for a while, and seeing that this SO is about as capable of putting actions to intentions, it even looked like something might come of it. Still, after the idea of walking from Funkturm to Fernsehturm had been discarded, we came up with the idea that one could and really should attempt to walk the entire length of what used to be the part of the Berlin Wall separating the two parts of the city*. And while other plans and the weather did all they could to stop us from actually going through with our plan, we finally managed to set off on the first part (of three) last Saturday.
All the way from Blankenfelde to the Mauerpark. Funniest was when we met another couple walking around the northern parts of the city.
Other bloke: "Well, we just wanted to have a bit of a look around. I mean, we're not planning to walk all the way to the Alexanderplatz."
Us: "Erm, we sort of are."
Embarrassed giggling ensued.
Our feet and various other bodyparts hurt at the end of it but we managed and felt very fulfilled. And for the record, let it be known that we claim to have walked 20km that day (no matter what Google Maps says on the subject ;-)
*Which is to say that we did not intend to walk along the entire Wall around the city, which would have been about three times the distance we planned on walking.
